You Season 3: A brilliant psychological thriller ‘You’ will return to Netflix for its third season. Here’s everything you need to know.
- After the success of the first two seasons, Netflix renewed the psychological thriller ‘You’ for the third season in Jan 2020.
- The filming is in progress and we can expect season 3 to premiere.
‘You’ is an American psychological thriller web series that grasped immense popularity since its first season. It is based on a thriller novel by Caroline Kepnes, published in September 2014. The unique and unpredictable plot of this psychological thriller will play with your mind. The show deals with a problematic, obsessive man who ends up becoming a murderer. Despite his toxic behaviour, people still find the protagonist (Joe) very charismatic which is one of the reasons why people are looking forward to it. And not to forget the show’s interesting and suspenseful plot which also makes us hooked to our seats.
After two very successful seasons, Netflix has renewed the show for a third season, despite criticism of its more problematic themes in some circles. Here are all the details you need to know about You season 3.
You Season 3: Production Update
On February 7th, 2020, showrunner Sera Gamble tweeted a picture ‘Hello You’’ written on a doormat with the caption, “We’ve started work on Season 3. Just thought you’d want to know #YouNetflix”. However, the production was put to a halt due to the pandemic.
After a long wait, the production resumed in November 2020. Netflix confirmed the news by posting a selfie of Badgley in a You-themed face mask. “We recommend you stay at least 6 feet from Joe Goldberg at all times. YOU Season 3 is back in production,” a tweet read.

The filming had to be suspended on December 31, 2020, due to a surge in Covid 19 cases. Recent reports suggest that the production on season 3 resumed in February 2021 and going in the full swing. Taking into account the original 5-month shooting schedule and delays due to the pandemic, we can expect the shoot to wrap up by the end of May 2021.
Just like the previous two seasons, it is safe to assume that season 3 will also comprise 10 episodes. We will share more details regarding production as soon as we get some concrete updates.
You Season 3 Plot & Storyline
‘You’ revolves around stalking sociopath Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley), who repeatedly develops obsessions with young women. In the first season, Joe develops an obsession with aspiring writer Beck (Elizabeth Lail) and ends up killing her. In the second season, Joe develops feelings for aspiring chef Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti).
Season 2 revealed that Love is very much like Joe. The second series ended in a shocking manner – with Love revealed to have been behind the murder of both Delilah (Carmela Zumbado) and Candace (Ambyr Childers). It looks as if Joe had found a perfect partner. The climax of season 2 left us shell-shocked as Love being pregnant and Joe and Love moving in together.
In season 3, we can expect Joe and Love to be more responsible because of the child and moreover also continuing to killing considering the twists and turns of the plot. Penn also hinted that Love will have some behavioural changes. Well, for now, we just have to wait for season 3 to drop in and if you are still not convinced, you can always check fans’ amazing theories.
Who is in the cast of You season 3?
The only confirmed cast members so far are Penn Badgley as serial killer Joe Goldberg and Victoria Pedretti as his murderous girlfriend Love Quinn. Some other stars which might return are Forty Quinn (James Scully) as Love’s brother, Will Bettelheim (Robin Lord Taylor), whose identity Joe stole.
There is a chance that Love’s friends Lucy (Marielle Scott), Sunrise (Melanie Field) and Gabe (Charlie Barnett) will also feature in the third season.
There’s also a possibility of a return for Jenna Ortega as Ellie Alves (season 2), Delilah’s fifteen-year-old sister. Jenna Ortega told Insider, “I don’t think her storyline has fully run its course and I say this because the writers have been so brilliant in the way that they left so many possibilities open.”
Some new characters might enter the show but we have to wait for the official cast announcement. In October 2020, it was announced that Badgley and Pedretti would be joined by two new characters in the upcoming third season of You.
