The incredible and terrible relationship between Debra Messing and Megan Mullally from Will & Grace

Although actresses Debra Messing and Megan Mullally played memorable friends and characters on Will & Grace, the same cannot be said in real life. During the revival of the series in 2017, rumors began to surface about the relationship between the actresses, which some have confirmed is not a good one. While these rumors have been around for a while, they were slowly confirmed after a source told Radar Online that Debra Messing and Megan Mullally “can’t stand being around each other, and it created an impossible atmosphere on set.” .

The source also confirmed that the two actresses never liked each other, even during the show’s original run. “They started to grate on each other’s nerves when it became clear that the program was crashing, ” the source said. Both stars have achieved success outside of show business over the years. Outside of Will & Grace , however, Debra Messing and Megan Mullally have not acted in any movies or TV shows together; so it makes us assume that the lack of this type of work together is due to the possible tension behind the scenes. The two actresses have never expressed personal feelings for each other in person or on social media, but Megan Mullally admitted to being harassed on a podcast.

While on air with her husband Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally said: “I’ve been stalked – I’m 60 and I’m being stalked right now so they know it’s a very insidious and dangerous thing and I never want to lose that happy innocent part of it. myself, but it’s almost like you have to kill that.” Further speculation arose after the announcement of Megan’s temporary leave from the final season, which saw her absent from two episodes. While the reason for her absence was never confirmed, several fans believe it was due to the feud between her and Debra Messing , especially since her leave began after rumors grew. To this day, it is still unknown why the actress missed the episodes.

The final straw had to do with a story on Megan Mullally’s Instagram profile from 2019, in which she said, “One of the best feelings is finally losing your attachment to someone who isn’t good for you!”  Although the post did not name her, her social media movements were made public when fans of the show noticed that she was not following any of her Will & Grace co-stars. It was also noted that Debra Messing is the only co-star not to follow her on Instagram.

Despite both actresses achieving success during their time on the show, it has been said that jealousy is a main factor in their poor relationship. While it may seem like Megan Mullally would be jealous of Debra Messing, sources have claimed that Debra is actually jealous of Megan’s success on the show. During both runs of the hit television series, Debra Messing and Megan Mullally took home multiple accolades. Although they were nominated for multiple Emmys, Megan took home two while Debra only took home one. However, Debra would surpass Megan in the Golden Globe nominations.

Despite various hints being made over the years about the actresses’ ill-fated relationship, several people in the Will & Grace family have denied that this is the case, the first being actor and co-star Eric McCormack. While speaking to US Weekly magazine about the dispute, he thought all the rumors were “crazy” and that the bond between all the cast members is “like a house on fire.” His co-star Sean Hayes has stayed away from the drama behind feud rumors and has done nothing but speak positively about all of the Will & Grace stars over the years.

Debra Messing has been busy since her time on Will & Grace, starring in the 2018 thriller “Searching” and making a cameo in 2022’s Bros. For her part, Megan Mullally currently has a recurring role on the animated series The Great North, and will play Mrs. Dodds/Alecto in the upcoming Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Though not confirmed, it seems likely that the two actresses had little to no contact after their Will & Grace days.
